A Book Club is always a good way to bond with those people who share your love of books, but occasionally the group needs a little prompting on discussion topics to get the conversation flowing. Please find below a few ideas to get things started.
- What were you expecting from the book to start with? Did the book meet your expectations? If not, what was different?
- How did you find the theme of fire throughout the book? Is it fierce, destructive, cleansing? What does it bring to the story?
- Who is your favourite Riva sibling? How do they complement/ rub up against each other?
- The siblings learn to love to surf together – what does it mean to their relationship?
- Who is the real villain in this book?
- Does this remind you of any other stories you have read? Which ones? Why?
- What is the most important message that you took from this book?
- What are your feelings on the relationship between the siblings?
- Where do you hope the story takes the Riva’s next?
- Who elses perspective do you think would have enhanced the book?
- How do you think this would translate into a film?
