A Book Club is always a good way to bond with those people who share your love of books, but occasionally the group needs a little prompting on discussion topics to get the conversation flowing. Please find below a few ideas to get things started.

- What were you expecting from the book to start with? Did the book meet your expectations? If not, what was different?
- What were your initial impressions of Evelyn? How did that change throughout the book?
- Who was your favourite husband, excepting the clear favourite of Harry. Who was your least favourite husband?
- What did the different husbands bring Evelyn, and how did they each contribute to the woman she was when we meet her in the beginning of the book?
- How did Evelyn develop as a character throughout the book?
- Evelyn makes some interesting points about the difference between sex and intimacy – how do you feel about those views? How did they effect the way that Evelyn behaved, and her relationship with Celia?
- Were you surprised by the revelations at the end the book? How did that change the way you felt about Evelyn and her story?
- Does this remind you of any other books you have read? Which ones? Why?
- What is the most important message that you took from this book?
- What are your feelings on the relationship that grew between Evelyn and Monique? What does Monique gain from meeting Evelyn?
- Where do you hope the story takes Monique next?
- How did you feel that the book managed the way that Evelyn and Monique view themselves as women of colour? How are their feelings similar and different?
- How do you think this would translate into a film?
