Verity Book Club Questions

A Book Club is always a good way to bond with those people who share your love of books, but occasionally the group needs a little prompting on discussion topics to get the conversation flowing. Please find below a few ideas to get things started.

  1. What were you expecting from the book to start with? Did the book meet your expectations? If not, what was different?
  2. What were your initial impressions of Verity and Lowen? How do the two women compare?
  3. How did you feel about Lowen reading Verity’s personal memoirs?
  4. The memoirs make some shocking statements – how did you feel about that? Where did you feel that the story was going?
  5. What was the atmosphere like in the house as Lowen got further through the memoirs?
  6. What were your initial impressions of Jeremy? What did you feel he brought to the story, and how much control did you feel he had over how it panned out?
  7. How did you feel about the ending of the book? Did anything in particular stay with you afterwards?
  8. Does this remind you of any other stories you have read? Which ones? Why?
  9. What is the most important message that you took from this book?
  10. What are your feelings on the relationship that grew between Lowen and Jeremy? In what ways did it mirror the relationship with Jeremy and Verity, and how was it different?
  11. How do you think this would translate into a film?
  12. Would you recommend this to any friends? Who? Why?
